Gomukhasana/Cow-head

 Introduction:

'Go' means a cow. 'Mukha' means face. When this asana is performed, the performer's posture resembles a cow-head. So it is called Gomukhasana. This is one of the eighty-four asanas. 



Technique:

1) place the left hill on the left side of the anus. Band the right leg in such a way that the right knee rest on the left knee and the sole of the right foot touches the lower part of the left thigh.

2) Practice will enable you to bring the right heal to the left thigh. 



3) Take the left arm to the back, band eat at the elbow and bring it upward.


4) Now, raise the right arm and it at the elbow and take it to the back.

5) Raise the first and the second fingers of the left hand.

6) Lower the first and the second fingers of the right hand. If the fingers slip away, try again for 2 minutes to bring them to the position.

7) Breath slowly. keep the trunk and the head in a straight line. Change the hands in turn.

8) A fat man will find it difficult to perform this asana. But constant practice will enable him to practice the arsana comfortably.

9) practice this asana 4 times in the first week. Later, gradually increase the frequency and practice it 6 times. Gradually, increase the duration till the limit of 15 minutes is reached.



Advantages:

1) Tumour in the axilla is dissolved by this asana.

2) This asana is in the category of padmasa-na and siddhasana and, therefore, the advantages which can be obtained from padmasana and sidha Sana can be obtained from this asana also.

3) This asana cures rheumatic arthritis of the legs and fissure.

4) This asana cures constipation, dyspepsia, loss of appetite, backache and arm- sprain.

5) This asana helps in observing celibacy and keeping sound health.
